So basically its like if Billy Squire were enjoying of cup of heavy Cream at a Zeppelin concert during the Stone Age, accompanied by the Queen. Yeah, that's pretty much the sound. 'No One Loves Me' starts off with a John Bonham-esque beat soon to match with what sounds like a late Paige riff. In fact if it weren't for the vocals you might be convinced that this is an unreleased Zep tune. Maybe something they wrote while fishing at The Edgewater. That is of course until 2:44 when all hell breaks loose. Have a listen and you'll know what we mean. Buy It.

Interesting album. Sounds a lot like earlier Black Keys in parts, but not all the time. A lot of the guitar licks sound Rubber Factory-esque. Also the album's got soul but its not a soldier. In addition to 'After Awhile', listen to 'From Orange to Pink' and 'Them Shoes'. For a soulful sample check out 'Hotel Woman'. Buy Every Hour is a Dollar Gone.

Yes, Mountain did have other songs. Its a shame that people only remember Mississippi Queen because Mountain wrote copious amounts of stellar tunes. Sittin' On a Rainbow has a nice late 60's happy feel but mixed with early 70's dirt. A combination of being pumped and feeling goovily happy should follow a listen of this track. Almost like an early 70's Raconteurs in composition, minus the recognition. Comprised of members from Vanilla Fudge, Amboy Dukes, and Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, Cactus could have been considered a supergroup in their day. Covering Willie Dixon, Mose Allison, and Little Richard, the group made it known what sound they were trying to achieve...the only problem being a band by the name of Led Zeppelin was doing that very same thing. Timing is everything...right? Anyways we suggest listening to this down tempo rendition of Little Richard's Long Tall Sally and you can be the judge. Oh by the way, get the album on itunes.

Over the past few months The Parlor Mob has been stopping at local radio stations in between gigs to rock out some live acoustic versions of Hard Times and Mr. Hey Mister. Today the group released a recorded version of Mr. Hey Mister through their label, Roadrunner Records. The track has the same homegrown backyard feel as Can't Keep No Good Boy Down, only with the added bonus of smooth harmonica work by frontman Mark Melicia. The Mob has also posted a smattering of spring tour dates beginning this month so keep posted and make it out to a show, it just may be the best live rock you'll ever see. A couple weeks ago in Nashville a relatively unknown band hit the stage. Although The Dead Weather doesn't exactly ring a bell, anyone who is unfamiliar with its members should have their bell rung. As you've probably already noticed by the image directly above this text, Jack White is involved. He happens to be the group's drummer. To his left is Greenhornes/Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence. On his right and playing guitar is Queens of the Stone Age's keyboardist Dean Fertita, and Alison Mosshart of The Kills singing lead vocals. Upon listening to Hang You From The Heavens one would assume that Jack is at the mic, but in actuality the voice heard is in fact of Ms. Mosshart. Trust us, take a listen. The side project began not too long ago but surprisingly they have been able to record a respectable amount of live tracks while touring with the rest of the Mob. Eagles of Death Metal - Heart On

They steal from the best. We didn't say it...they did...honestly. Heart On is the third release(mathematically) from the quirky L.A. duo, Eagles of Death Metal. The reason we say "mathematically" is probably because at this point in a band's journey we expect them to venture away from what got them there. Usually some kind of experimental bullshit that doesn't really matter to fans but to the band it sounds "progressive". In our minds it doesn't sound like a third release. Anyways, EODM have stuck with what got them there. We're talking about really addictive rock riffs and downright laughable vocals. Listening to this album reminds us of the first time we popped Peace, Love, Death Metal into the cd player of the 1991 Volvo station wagon and rocked all the way home. Listen to Secret Plans, I'm Your Torpedo, and WannaBe In L.A. Buy It.

Our amps really go to eleven on this one. Right, its been a while since this album broke onto the scene and stirred up trouble. Most people already know about Airbourne, but it wouldn't be right to continue this blog without including them. For you unfortunate souls who haven't had the pleasure of getting your face blown off, listen to this album at full volume. To say that this album is completely comprised of in-your-face power ballads would be a horrible understatement. Its painfully good. The kind of good that feels like getting kicked in the balls repeatedly before being doused in Jack Daniels, lit on fire, and left for dead on the street corner. Every single track is a high energy party from start to finish, but first listen to Cheap Wine & Cheaper Women, and then BlackJack. Buy it.

This album could have been produced in the mid 70's...honestly...so easy. Good clean southern rock & roll that will make you bounce or swing. The first two tracks on the album are about as different as can be, but both do exactly what they should. Album opens with their single, an explosive riff-heavy head banger called Baby Come Home. Immediately following is Delilah, a down tempo swinger with some gripping harmonies. Have a listen, you might find that its a healthy mix of Skynrd and the Doobies. Dirty Sweet's website. Buy It.

Served in an old frozen mug at a local jive joint in Cleveland. Clean, crisp drum hits with fuzzed-out guitars and straightforward vocals. Down and dirty rock with blues notes here and there. Begins with an explosion on the palate and after tingling the buds it finishes smooth. Hints of southern rock throughout. Pairs well with a beefed up '68 Bronco and a fast broad riding shotgun. Black Diamond Heavies - A Touch of Someone Else's Class

Filthy, just filthy dude. The type of dirt that comes from the back corners of hole-in-the-wall bars underneath the pinball machine. Just grimy. A pig in shit would be jealous of the sound this album emanates. What the Black Diamond Heavies are doing with this album is slapping you in the face with realness. Organ, drums, and scratchy vocals(an understatement really, more like the sound 30 years of smoking Marlboro Reds will give you)...and that's all. Whats so great about this album is that amongst all the sooty tones, there's actually a good amount of feel good rock and soul to note. You can't help but bop your head from side to side while listening to Everything is Everything, or even get sucked into an emotional whirlpool with Bidin' My Time. A Touch of Someone Else's Class is the groups second album, and is produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach(very interesting, you can almost hear his influence). All in all, a great record that I think you should check out. Go to a place where compact discs of music are sold or shared and buy it, or borrow it. Who am I kidding? Support the guys, buy the damn thing. Buy It.

Lemon Sun - Tales of Uncertainty - EP

Its something I think you might dig. It starts with a bang, in "Telephone". The intro catches your ear but attention won't drift after its done, which is a refreshing change from most one night stands you might bump into on myspace music. The chorus has the ability to stick with you and make you sing while you walk to the cafe or the sushi bar, and it doesn't leave without a fight. Another bright spot is the last song on the EP, "Three Words". Check the three strong chords accompanied by an "ooh woo ooh" vocal section during the chorus. Interesting choice to go with three chords and three oohs in a song entitled "Three Words". Smart? Smart. Buy It.

In a day and age where albums are highly influenced by record labels, it seems like The Colour have stayed true to themselves as artists and made an album thats genuine. On first listen its easy to drift to Devil's Got A Holda Me and Save Yourself, but look deeper to The Vines-esque sound of Can You Hear It Call, as well as the unmistakable Hendrix connection with Salt The Earth. A true hidden gem of an album, probably a ruby, Between Earth & Sky is one of my favorite albums of 2007. Give it a listen while you sip your orange pekoe Buy It.
